We started the weekend off on a great note by heading into downtown Austin Friday night for some dessert at Amy's Ice Cream. Then on Saturday morning Mom, Candis, and Patrick rented kayaks and spent an hour on the river. Marshall and I joined them, but we instead rented a swan pedal boat - safer for El Preggers - and Marshall insisted on pedalling for both of us (always the gentleman!). That afternoon, we split into two groups, with some of us watching the World Cup USA game and others going to see Toy Story 3 in IMAX at the Texas State History Museum. The two groups re-joined that evening to celebrate Corey's birthday over dinner/dessert, and then headed back out to the river for a sunset bat-watching cruise (note: there were supposed to be 1.5 million bats flying out from under a bridge, but this particular evening they took too long and we missed it!).
On Sunday morning, we packed up the cars and all headed to Barton Springs for some "fun in the sun". Let me tell you, we were warned beforehand that the water remains a cool 68 degrees at all times, but the warning did not prepare us enough! The crisp water did feel nice after awhile, but it certainly took some getting used to!
It was a great weekend, full of laughter, stories told and memories made. Here are some pictures of our getaway:
